Gary Walter Spangler

Gary was a proud graduate of South High School and remained deeply connected to his school and the friendships he made there throughout his life. He was an active member of the South High School Alumni Association and took great pride in staying involved with his fellow alumni.

He enjoyed the simple things in life, like attending car shows and proudly showing off his beautiful ’55 Chevy and his Chevelle. He also enjoyed coaching football and girls’ softball during the years his daughter played, always cheering her on and supporting her every step of the way. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, Gary found great joy in spending time outdoors and enjoying the beauty of nature.

Gary was a man who believed in serving others. He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to protecting and serving his community when he began his law enforcement career as a patrolman with the University of Tennessee Police Department. Through dedication, hard work, and a genuine desire to help others, he advanced through the years and ultimately became a detective.

He will be remembered as a loving father, a loyal friend, a dedicated public servant, and a man who took great pride in his family, his community, and the things he loved. His kindness, humor, strength, and willingness to serve others touched the lives of many. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Gary has been reunited with his beloved wife, Delores Jean Spangler; parents, Bill and Eva Spangler.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his dedicated daughter, Stacy Spangler; grandchildren, Brennan and Cameron Ellis.
