George Edward Griffin Jr.

George Edward Griffin, Jr, 81, of Knoxville passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on June 9, 2015. He was a member of Meridian Baptist Church and a charter member of Cumberland Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He retired from Travis Meats where he worked for over 40 years. He was an avid UT Football fan, loved to travel, and spend his winters in Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents, George E. and Ruth Griffin and his son, Lawrence (Larry) Griffin. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Lou. A son Wesley R. Griffin and Sherry, daughter Allison G. York and Mike, a special granddaughter who cared for him every day for the past 3 years Christina Griffin and Josh, granddaughter Chelsey Griffin and Jonathan Davis, granddaughter Alex York and Caleb Melton, grandson Wesley E. Griffin and Sarina Wilson, grandson Lawrence Jr (LJ) Griffin, grandson Jeremy Harrell and Kerri e Garner, granddaughter Kasey Hackworth and Rocky, great-grandchildren Alexis and Brooklyn Griffin who brightened his day every day, Hadley and Jace Harrell, sister Sarah Schmidt of Hixson, niece Lisa Phillips, nephew Art Schmidt, nephew Joe Mathis, special brother in law, Jerry Mathis. In lieu of flowers family requests donations to The Pat Summitt Foundation or Meridian Baptist Church. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Weaver’s chapel with service to follow .
