George Washington Ott Jr., 70, of Knoxville, went home to be with the Lord on January 20, 2024. He passed peacefully in his home. He was born on October 22, 1953, to George Ott Sr. and Julia Ott, nee Whaley, in Knoxville. He was raised on the family farm that has been in his family since 1857 in Tarklin Valley. He graduated from Doyle High School, Walter State Community College and State Tech (now Pellissippi State). He married Margaret (Maggie) Nichols on June 18, 1977, and they had two children, Bethany (Robert) Richart and Bridget (Matthew) Plumer. He began his career as an Engineer at ORNL in 1980 and retired from ORNL in 2011. He had been working as a self-employed consultant with the federal government since 2011. He also pastored at Saint Paul Non-Denominational Church for several years. He was an avid traveler and was able to see so much of the world through his work and many romantic trips he took with Maggie. He was known to all as a kind, gentle and loving person. He was a longtime member of Meridian Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, daughters, granddaughters (Amie Kate and Emma Ann), grandson (Colin) and a large, loving family.
George was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dale.
Receiving of friends will be Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 5-7pm with a Funeral Service to follow at 7pm at Berry Highland South. A Graveside Services will be Friday, January 26, 2024, at Berry Highland South in the Garden of Gospels at 11am.
