Gwendolyn Marie (Maples) Rogers, age 102, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. Gwen was born August 10, 1921 to parents, Azor and Ida Belle Maples in Loudon County, Tennessee. She graduated from Loudon High School and Tennessee Wesleyan College where she met her husband, Warnell Lewis Rogers.
Gwen was a member of First Baptist Church, Loudon, later transfering to Church Street United Methodist Church where she was a devoted member for 72 years and served as Chairman of the Altar Guild for many years. Warnell and Gwen joined Murphy Builders and Gwen was an active member of the United Methodist Women's Circle.
Gwen enjoyed life and always thanked God for her many blessings. She enjoyed reading, sewing, travel, bridge and golf.
Gwen is preceded in death by her husband, Warnell; parents, Ida and Azor Maples; sister, Myrtle Ratledge; brother, Elmore Maples; grandson, Jeremy Crye; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Cooper Rogers and son-in-law, Mac Tucker. She is survived by her son, Lewis Robert Rogers and daughter, Beverly Anne Rogers Tucker; granddaughter, Yvonne Ida Rogers; companion, Ben Pounds; great-grandson, Sidney Crye and great-granddaughter, Xyla Crye.
A receiving of friends will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 1pm with a funeral service to follow at 2pm at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers please consider a gift to Church Street Methodist Church in Gwen's memory.
