With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Hanna B. "Johnny" Harb, a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend whose kindness, gentle spirit, and dedication to others touched countless lives. While we mourn his passing, we find comfort in the promise of God's eternal love and the peace that comes from resting in the arms of the Lord.
Hanna was born in Ramallah, Palestine, in 1953, the eldest son of Bishara and Zahwa Harb. At the tender age of four, he immigrated with his family to Tennessee, where he grew up while maintaining a deep love and pride for his Palestinian heritage. His roots remained an important part of who he was throughout his life.
During his years at Fulton High School, Hanna was a talented athlete who excelled in both track and basketball. In 1972, he distinguished himself by winning a hurdles event at the Knoxville Interscholastic League Track and Field Championships, a significant achievement that brought recognition to his school and reflected his athletic ability, determination, and competitive spirit.
Hanna later served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge in 1978.
For more than 22 years, Hanna faithfully served as a Yoga and Wellness Instructor at the YMCA. Throughout those years, he touched countless lives through his dedication to health, wellness, and the well-being of others. His passion for yoga extended far beyond teaching classes. He created a welcoming and supportive environment where people of all ages and abilities could find strength, peace, encouragement, and a sense of belonging.
To Hanna, yoga was more than physical exercise. It was a way of life that embraced balance, mindfulness, compassion, and inner peace. He shared these values generously with others, leaving a lasting impression on the many people who had the privilege of knowing him.
Above all, Hanna was a kind and gentle man who valued family and the special bonds of love and friendship. He cherished his many cousins and the memories they shared, always remaining proud of his family and heritage.
Hanna was preceded in death by his beloved father, Bishara Harb.
He leaves behind his beloved mother, Zahwa Harb; his sister, Helen Harb (Al); his brother, Elias Harb (Martha); his niece, Amira DeSa (Tai); and his nephews, Sharif Harb (Angelina) and Evan Harb (Michelle). He was also an adored great-uncle to Alexis, Ashley, Norah, and Grace, who held a special place in his heart.
He will be deeply missed by his many cousins, extended family members, dear friends, and the YMCA community he served so faithfully.
Hanna's legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the kindness he shared, and the peace he helped others discover. Though his earthly journey has ended, the love and goodness he brought into this world will never be forgotten. We entrust him to the loving care of our Heavenly Father, finding comfort in knowing that God's love is everlasting.
Receiving of family and friends will be held at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 1:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 pm. Friends and family will process to the Graveside Service at Sherwood Memorial Gardens following services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Hanna's memory to the YMCA or the Ramallah, Palestine Club of Knoxville, two organizations that reflect his lifelong commitment to wellness, community, and heritage.
He lived with kindness, moved with grace, and shared his peace with the world.
May the Lord welcome Hanna into His eternal kingdom of everlasting peace and love. May his soul rest in the loving arms of Jesus Christ.
