Harry M. Switzer, of Sevierville, Tennessee, passed away on May 16, 2019. He was born and raised in Derry Pennsylvania. Harry received his Bachelor’s degree at State College Indiana, Pa., he later earned his Master’s degree at Ithaca College in N.Y. He later received his Doctorate of Musical Arts from Miami University Florida. Harry conducted the Youngstown Philharmonic Choir in Ohio, and was very active with the Youngstown Symphony Society singing in numerous operas. His passion for acting and singing were refined as he performed for many years with Youngstown Playhouse and Kenley Players in Warren Ohio. He was a very talented and accomplished musician. Besides piano and vocal accomplishments, Harry played most brass instruments. He could most recently be heard at Seymour United Methodist Church services playing the baritone, trumpet or trombone where he attended services. Harry was an accomplished composer and music arranger with several of his orchestral and brass pieces published. He also published a Children’s Opera “The Three Bears” that was performed by a theater company in Coral Gables Florida, and more recently, a coral piece performed by Seymour High School Choir on Veteran’s Day called “Rest in Peace Ye Hero’s”. Harry has planted the seeds of the love for music and performance in many people. Harry is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Marybeth; a daughter, Deborah (Steve) Walsh; a son, Douglas (Gabriela) Switzer; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren, many of whom follow in his musical footsteps.
Family and friends will met at Seymour United Methodist Church for a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 1:00pm. Arrangements were made by Berry Funeral Home.
