Hazel Minton Schmid, age 95, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully on Saturday June, 16, 2018. Hazel was a Knoxville native and a graduate of Central High School. She loved people and is perhaps most famously known as "Miss Hazel at Regas Restaurant, the hostess with the mostest." Her knack for knowing and connecting with people was incredible. Beginning August 28, 1954, she worked at Regas for 55 years and considered the Regas family and her coworkers part of her family and her work there a blessing. Because of her love for her customers and their love for her, she became part of many Knoxville families who dined at Regas. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Gertrude Minton; her husband, Albert E. Schmid; daughter, Faye Carson; grandson, William Shelton. She is survived by daughter, Jeannie Shelton; son-in-law, Harold Shelton; step son, Tubby Schmid and several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her caregivers, Vena and Wendy. Family will receive friends Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 5:00PM to 7:00 PM in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy., with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 7:00PM. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Berry Highland South Cemetery, 9010 E. Simpson Rd., for an interment service. Memorials may be made in Hazel's honor to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000 Dept 495, Memphis, TN 38101-9801.
