Helen L. Houser-Ward

Houser/Ward, Helen Louise, age 94, of South Knoxville, born October 21, 1917, went to be with the Lord Saturday, December 10, 2011. Member of Gloria Dei Lutheran. Preceded in death by husband of 60 years, Lynn B. Houser; granddaughter, April Lynn Schmid, parents: mother; Grace Finley Scalf, father; Minter Othenal Arthur Scalf and stepmother; Eva Scalf, brothers: O.H., Little Bill, Teddy and Carl Scalf; sisters, Bee Stipes, Margaret Houser and Jean McCall. Survived by husband; Bill Ward; sons and daughter-in-laws: Gerald and Loretta Houser; Ron and Fran Houser. Grandchildren: Rhonda Myers, Timi Smith, Lisa Houser, Lindy Curtsinger; nine great grandchildren. Survived by brother, Minter Scalf; and sisters, Zella Sherlin, Kat Mills, Tilly Dennison, Alma Lawson, Judy Hensley, all of Strawplains, TN. Family and friends referred to her as Mamaw Houser because of her mothering nature. Retired supervisor from Southern Athletic/BIKE. Charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church; active past member of High Bluff Community Club and South Knoxville Grange. A special thanks to the staff of Hillcrest South Nursing Home for her exceptional care. Family will receive friends on Monday, December 12, 2011 from 5-7 PM with service to follow at 7 PM at Berry Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
