Helen Bernice Novak

Helen Bernice Novak, age 94, of Maryville passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at her home. Helen was a member of Our Lady of Fatima. She was born Feb. 10, 1924 in Wilkes-Barre, PA to John & Helen Kawalec, graduated from high school, and moved to New Jersey. On Jan 15, 1955, she married the love of her life, Edward Novak. Ed was the best man at her sister's wedding where Helen was the Maid of Honor. Helen & Ed were inseparable for almost 64 years of happy marriage. Helen was passionate about her calling as homemaker and raising her 3 children to get the college education that she had missed. Her enthusiasm for reading inspired her children. She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Helen Kawalec; sisters, Theresa Bednarik, Florence Kawalec, and Irene Kawalec; brother, Joseph Kawalec. Survivors include her beloved husband, Edward Novak; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Cindy Novak of Thornville OH, and Thomas and Kathy Novak of Chattanooga, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and "big guy" Jeffrey Morris of Maryville, TN; grandchildren, Pamela Huson, Kimberly LaMarca, Elizabeth Novak, Hannah, Jaime, Bailey & Gage Morris; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Huson II, and Valentina, Julianna, Aubriella, Alessandra and Eliana LaMarca; brother and sister-in-law, John and Terry Kawalec. Many many thanks to all of mom's caregivers especially Teri Snelgrove and BMH Hospice. You are all very special people. Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Bill McNeeley at Our Lady of Fatima at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 29, 2018. Visitation was from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, with a Celebration of Life service at 3:00 pm at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy on Saturday, December 29, 2018. Interment of ashes will be at Our Lady of Fatima at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 19, 2019.
