Hilda attended Central High School in Cookeville, Tn where she and my sister, Pat Stout Hunter, became good friends. Their friendship continued for many years in Knoxville with their husbands, Keith and Harold. May God bring peace and comfort to her family in the coming days.

I grew up on the Brotherton mountain with Hilda.  Shortly after my father died when I was 11,  Hilda's mother made a dress for me to wear to our annual school trip which was to Mammoth Cave, Ky that year.  Later Hilda and I reconnected briefly  when I first came to Karns High to teach.  Since the High school bldg had recently burned classes were located in many different structures   My classroom was  a flat top  bldg. on the Karns elementary school campus and my class ate lunch in the  elementary school cafeteria at the same time Hilda  and her students ate,  so we got to chat at lunch.  Her passing brings back so many childhood memories.  My condolences to her family.

Mrs. Cooper was a teacher that impacted my life as a young mother. She always gave me excellent advice on navigating 1st grade with my oldest child.  She was so sweet and kind. Then later we enjoyed her coming in to our shop to enjoy flowers. She will be missed.

Hilda Cooper was an inspiration to me as I taught along side of her in my earlier years of teaching.  The favorite lesson she shared with me had to do with fractions...giveTWO First Graders ONE candy bar. One child cuts it in half and then the other child got to choose the one they would eat.  The students came to understand the true meaning of 1/2, how to divide something equally (hopefully!!) and how to share.  That was probably in 1984...a long time ago. BUT I have never forgotten and I imagine our students haven't forgotten it either.

Knew her through her husbands employment at the Volvo truck dealership. They were wonderful people with the greatest care and compassion for humanity. Sorry for your loss.

She was my children's first grade teacher at Karns Elementary.  She was an excellent teacher and always so kind and caring.  She made such a difference.  My sympathy to her family.

The absolute best homemade cooked banana pudding by far!  Several times she would call me out of the blue to say come pick up your warm banana pudding or warm banana nut bread!  She was so loving and special, always thinking and sharing with others!  It was a true honor to call her my friend!  And, to her beautiful family, I love u all so much!  You all were blessed with the best!

Mrs. Cooper was my first grade teacher and a long time neighbor of my grandparents, then of my parents, and now of mine. As an adult, Mrs Cooper and I bonded over flower gardening and our little dogs would play together. 
When I was a child, Mrs. Cooper was a very patient teacher as I was a pretty rambunctious student. I remember getting into a bit of trouble because I always had a hard time sitting still in class for very long, but she was always good to me. 
As an adult, when Mrs. Cooper became my neighbor she once had many plants and flowers in her yard. She shared many stater plants with me over the years. She even shared a start of a lilac bush that was her mother’s. I think of her every time I see those flowers in my gardens. 
Mrs. Cooper was a lovely lady.
