Hugh Joseph McSpadden

Hugh Joseph McSpadden, age 91, of Glendale, Arizona passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Hugh was a resident of the Phoenix, Arizona area for over 40 years at the time of his death. He was a graduate of Bearden High School and a graduate of University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He began his working career at Rocketdyne, in McGregor Texas, where not long afterwards he met Mary Schaefer who he later married. He worked for Rocket Power in Mesa, Arizona eventually moving to Universal Propulsion Company (UPCO) in Riverside, California in 1963. When UPCO consolidated operations in 1979 Hugh moved to Phoenix, Arizona, with his family, and continued working there until his retirement. Hugh worked as a consultant for Augspurger Komm Engineering for over 10 years after retiring from UPCO.

Hugh is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Lucy McSpadden; wife, Mary McSpadden and son, Brian Joseph McSpadden. He is survived by his daughter, Moira L. McSpadden in addition to many cousins and friends.

Hugh accepted the gift of salvation from Jesus Christ as an adult through the ministry of a friend who served with Campus Crusade for Christ. He is now in Heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Each of us, who are still here, will join him in Heaven when our time to leave this earth arrives.

A graveside service will be held for Hugh on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 1pm inside Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery Knoxville, Tennessee where the McSpadden family plot is located. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Hugh served many years with Mission to the Migrants in Southern California when living there. After moving to Phoenix he, with his wife, was involved with United Indian Mission for many years. Instead of flowers, it is suggested that contributions may be made in his honor to:
