Burchell, Irene Elizabeth Blazier - born January 5, 1922, of the Neubert Springs community in Knoxville, TN, passed away at Brakebill Nursing Home in Knoxville on Monday, December 22, 2014. She was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Irene's great grandfather French was a member of the First Families of Tennessee. During World War II, Irene worked at the Selective Services office in Knoxville and later served as Office Manager for Knoxville Transit Lines (KAT) for a career of over 40 years. She was also active in the community, helping at the Marble Springs home of John Sevier, chair caning, and serving as a caregiver. As a member of her church group, "Tacky Ladies," she tacked quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She was preceded in death by husband, Roy L. Burchell, Jr.; parents, William M. Blazier and Cora French Blazier; son-in-law, William Cruze, Jr.; sisters, Helen Houser, Geneva Jennings, and Reba Ivens; brothers, James W. Blazier and David F. Blazier. She is survived by daughter, Linda Burchell Cruze; sisters, Stella J. Myers and Wilma J. Johnson; brother, R. Kenneth Blazier (Carolyn); sister-in-law, Georgia H. Blazier; many caring nieces, nephews, and cousins, and she will be missed by many relatives and longtime friends. Her family would like to thank the staff of Brakebill Nursing Home for the care and concern shown to Irene during her time spent there. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 26, 2014 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home on Chapman Highway. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery after the service.
