James "Jim" R. Baker

James R. Baker , age 88 passed away peacefully at his home on August 4, 2026. Jim was a 1956 graduate of Rule High School. He served with the Knoxville City Police Department for 16 years and transferred to the Knoxville Fire Department until his retirement. He was active in the Air Force Reserves for six years. Jim was a longtime member of Mount Olive Baptist Church where he was active in the Eagle's Mens Sunday School class, the church choir and the Carpenters for Christ. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Preceded in death by his parents, John W. Baker and Mildred Irene Bledsoe Baker; brothers, Don and Mike Baker; sister, Sylvia Baker Alley.

Jim is survived by his wife of 66 years, Pat; sons, Mark Baker, Steve and wife, Kelli Baker, and daughter, Beth Hurley; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Mount Olive Baptist Church, 2500 Maryville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920.
