James Larry Benson, age 75, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the UT Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family. Larry was a devoted member of Central Church of God, where his faith was a steady light throughout his life. He built a long and honorable career with Knoxville Mack/Worldwide Equipment before retiring, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
Larry was welcomed into Eternity by his parents, James, and Lillie Benson; his beloved wife, Kathy Benson; sisters, Trisha Browning, and Diane "Doodle" Benson. Though his time on earth has ended, the love he gave so freely lives on in each life he touched.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sheila Anne Benson. He is also lovingly remembered by his children, Jamie Benson, Gregory Benson, and Suzanne Swaggerty; brother, William "Peanut" Benson; sisters, Sharon Parrott, and Cynthia Spangler. His grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride, include Ricky Swaggerty, Alex Swaggerty, MaKayla Parton, Zack Collins, Blake Benson, Alex Hines, Tristen Bowling, Andrew Hines, Jo Gowan, and Macey Benson. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren who adored him which include Maggie Mae Parton, Wade Bowling, and Boyd Bowling.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life and legacy of James on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920, with a visitation from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and a funeral service to follow at 7:00pm, a committal service will take place at Blue Springs Cemetery, 749 Buner Rd., Strawberry Plains, TN 37871, Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 2:00pm with Brothers James Dunn and Garrett Reese to officiate the services.
