James Wayne Maples passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee. He was 95 years old.
Born to Walter and Ethel Maples, James was a dedicated family man who cherished his stepchildren, nieces, and nephews as his own. Throughout his life, he was a loving husband, first to his wives June Estelle Curnutt and Elsie Pauline Maples.
James was an accomplished heavy equipment operator and mechanic, known for his skill in operating and repairing heavy equipment for the Power Equipment Company. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, demonstrating his commitment to service and country.
A true farmer at heart, James found joy in cultivating the land. He was particularly passionate about planting corn, watermelon, cantaloupe, and raising cattle, embodying the spirit of agricultural life.
James was preceded in death by his parents; Walter and Ethel Maples; first wife; June Estelle Curnutt; second wife; Elsie Pauline Maples; and his companion of over 20 years, Buddy.
He is survived by his stepchildren, nieces, and nephews, whom he loved deeply. James will be remembered for his hard work, love of farming, and dedication to family.
A visitation for James will be held Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McCarty - Evergreen Funeral Home, 7426 Asheville Highway, Knoxville, TN 37924. A funeral service will occur Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 7:00 PM, 7426 Asheville Highway, Knoxville, TN 37924. A graveside service will occur Friday, January 31, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Pollard Cemetery, Kodak, Kodak, TN 37764.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
