James "Papaw" Michael Pressley

July 20, 1953 – August 19, 2025

Papaw officially clocked out on August 19, 2025. After years of turning wrenches as a diesel mechanic, he retired—only to “un-retire” and head back to work at advance auto parts. Truth be told, he loved that job almost as much as the jokes he told while doing it.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, James F. and Helen Pressley, and his wife, Beth Pressley.

He is survived by his “Baby Bro” Elvis Eugene Pressley (Tammy); son Michael H. Pressley (Aundrea); daughter Jennifer Johnson (Aaron); Grandchildren Bubba, BreAnna, Kiera, Cierra, Abigayl Trammell, Tristan Pressley (Abbigail), Justice Pressley, Bryson, and Bentley Pressley. Great-grandchildren Camdyn, Khaysn, Luca, his baby girl Aria, Krue, Amara, Jamarcus, Malik, Carson, DJ, and Gabby. Niece Brandy (Corey); nephew Brad Pressley; Brandon (Chelsea); Whitney (Kip); great-nieces and nephews Chase, Braelyn, Elliana, Smiley, Emmy, Rhett and his favorite daughter-in-law, Lindsey. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Ivy and Scruffy, and a crew of great friends at advance auto.

A true jack of all trades and master of none, Mike always had a wisecrack ready and could aggravate at a moment’s notice. He loved to hunt, camp, and convince everyone else he knew what he was doing.

Heaven just gained another comedian, and in true Papaw fashion, he’s probably already found an angel to pester. He leaves behind laughter, love, and the reminder not to take life too seriously.

A visitation for James will be held Sunday, August 24, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at McCarty - Evergreen Funeral Home, 7426 Asheville Highway, Knoxville, TN 37924. A funeral service will occur Sunday, August 24, 2025 at 4:00 PM, 7426 Asheville Highway, Knoxville, TN 37924. A graveside service will occur Monday, August 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Chilhowee Cemetery, Boyds Creek Highway, Seymour, TN 37865.
