James Alexander White, Sr., 85, of Knoxville, TN, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, after long-standing complications from many medical issues. A 1958 graduate of Young High School, he worked his entire career at Modern Supply. He enjoyed athletics – from basketball to softball to golf – throughout his life, his lawn, tinkering in his workshop and doing home improvement projects for many friends and family members. A gregarious storyteller who never met a stranger, he was always known for his tall tales.
He is preceded in death by his wife Betty Lynn Reed White, son James Alexander White, Jr., father A.D. White, Sr., mother Fannie Lee White, and beloved brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
He is survived by his daughter Lisa Goodman (Mark), granddaughters Leigh White, Meredith and Isabella Goodman, grandsons Andrew White (Audrey) and Cameron Goodman, great grandchildren Tatyana and Denitsa Dencheva and Jack and Hank White, and numerous cherished friends and family members.
Arrangements are being made by Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Jim’s honor to Mt. Olive Baptist Church (https://mobcknox.com/), where he was a long-time member, or the Friends of Great Smoky Mountains National Park (https://friendsofthesmokies.org), where he enjoyed spending time at Cades Cove.
