James “Lowell” Wilson, age 86, of Knoxville, TN passed away on February 6, 2021. Lowell was a member of Grace Baptist church for 22 years. He served as a Deacon for many years at Ridgedale Baptist Church of Chattanooga before moving to Knoxville. Lowell was a 1953 graduate from Oak Ridge High School and is in the Oak Ridge Hall of Fame for football and track. After high school he ran track on scholarship for the University of Tennessee where he can be found on the Lettermen’s Wall of Fame. Lowell mentored many young men during his time as a football coach and as a TSSAA referee. In addition to his many athletic accomplishments, Lowell was an Army Veteran and retired from TVA where he was a Mechanical Engineer. Lowell was a loving husband, father, papa, uncle and friend. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Ethel Wilson; brother Norman Wilson and aunt and uncle Grover and Livia Buchanan. Lowell is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Patricia Wilson; daughter Carolyn (Daryl) Cole; granddaughters Lindsay (Dustin) Phillips and Kendal (Matt) Moore; great-grandchildren Kathryn and Layla Phillips, Cole, Caroline, and Cooper Moore and nieces Phyllis, Barbara, and Linda. Family will receive friends on Tuesday at Weaver Funeral Home from 3pm-6pm. Friends and family can gather at Greenwood Cemetery on Wednesday at 2:45pm for a 3pm interment service.
