Janice was the daughter of the late Howard Edward Peavler, Sr. and Dorothy Evelyn McCarter Peavler. Janice graduated from Young High School in 1966. She earned her undergraduate and masters degrees from the University of Tennessee, and was an instructor in the UT English department for many years until her retirement.
Janice had a brilliant mind, a loving heart, and a generous spirit. She loved animals and especially enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels that came to eat from the generous supply of seeds she provided. She had three much loved dogs over the years: Lucy, Raven, and Buddy. Any time Janice had steak for dinner, she always saved a piece for her dog. Janice was also an avid reader. She enjoyed all types of literature, especially mysteries.
Janice is survived by her brother, Howard Edward (Ed) Peavler, Jr., and wife, Gaile; nieces, Kristen Peavler Hamilton (Kevin) and Kelly Peavler Crump (Alan); grandnephews: David Hamilton (Erin and children, Theo, Emmy, and Elliot), William Hamilton, Andrew Hamilton, Issac White, and Luke White; grandnieces, Lizzie Hamilton and Katie White; several cousins, including Claudia Faye Miller, her closest friend in latter years. She leaves behind many neighbors and caregivers who provided companionship and comfort in her last months. Janice will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Janice's life will be held at a future date.
