Janis J Sims

Janis J Sims, age 87, of Knoxville, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord and her husband and son on Thursday, August 3, 2023. She was a devoted member of Meridian Baptist Church for many decades. Janis lived life to the fullest and enjoyed a beautiful, adventurous life including hiking, traveling, cruises, bus trips, fine dining while always looking fabulous! She enjoyed all animals especially, her sweet cats. Memaw was dearly loved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who had many nicknames for her.

Janis was devoted to the Knox County Head Start Program for many decades, where she impacted countless lives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Sims; son, Reggie Lynn Sims; mother, Addie Mae Troutman Wilcox and father, Tate Alley Troutman.

Janis is survived by son, J. Gene Sims; daughter, Suzanne Henson; grandchildren: Tiffany (Jason) Merritt, Kristopher (Kayley) Sims, Clark (Beau) Geolina Henson, Whitney Henson, Tate (AnnaKristen) Henson, Alexa (Zach) Henson Orange, Braxton Sims, great-grandchildren: Bentley Merritt, Stella Sims and Riser Henson; sister, Rebecca Troutman Hodges; nephews, Jeffrey and Michael Wilson.

The family will receive friends Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 10:30 AM until 11:00 AM at Meridian Baptist Church, Chapman Hwy, Knoxville with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 11:00 AM officiated by Rev. Dana Fachman. Following the service family and friends will go in procession to Mt. Olive Cemetery, Berry Road, Knoxville for an Interment Service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimers of Tennessee or Meridian Baptist Church.
