Edwards, Jason Slate, age 44, born December 4, 1968, the most amazing husband, father, son, brother and uncle, went singing and dancing into the arms of his Savior on Sunday, August 25, 2013. Jason was a very strong man of God, was well-known for his sense of humor, quick wit, mischievousness, and his desire to help those in need. He dearly loved and cherished the time he would spend with his family. He took great pride in his daughter, Sidnee, and son, Wyatt, in anything they would do. Nothing could erase the smile on his face when he spoke of them or was watching them play sports. He coached both girls and boys soccer at Karns Middle School for many years, loving mentoring to the kids he coached. He was a well-known businessman, owning Duct Doctor, USA of Knoxville for 10 years, and prided himself on being honest and always putting the customer first. Jason worshipped the Lord every day of his life, and would start the day off by reading from his Bible. Every Sunday he could be found in the center of the back row at Providence Church, surrounded by family and friends. His enthusiasm for singing and hearing God’s word was infectious. Diagnosed with a terminal brain cancer on Thanksgiving weekend, 2010, Jason turned even more to Christ, laying his burden down and putting all trust in the Lord. His zest for life and his belief in God led many to Christ. He never once looked at his cancer as anything but a blessing and a gift, because it’s what brought him and his family closer to God. Jason’s fight with cancer is a testament to the man he was and how dearly he was loved by so many in our community. Cancer showed the world how strong and courageous Jason was and how love will never fail. I am so blessed to have been his wife for the past 23 years, and cancer did not win this fight; we as a family have won! Jason is greeted in Heaven by his grandfathers, Virgil Edwards and Kettry Whitson, and his grandmother, Ruth Whitson. Left to carry on his legacy are his wife, Melissa Edwards; daughter, Sidnee and son, Wyatt Edwards; fraternal grandmother, Juanita Edwards; mother, Brenda Kay Edwards; father, Charles Edwards and wife Sue; father- and mother-in-law, Andy and Elaine Fadnek; brothers, Mark Edwards, Tim Lockhart and wife Penny, Rock Edwards and wife Debbie, sisters, Rosemary Irwin and husband Randy, Jacque Beason and husband Jay, Jennifer Edwards; brother-in-law, Andy Fadnek and wife Ruthie; nephews, Jon Kamar, Logan Fadnek, Chad Mincy, Marshall, Easton, Aidan, Conner and Luke Edwards, Barron Beason; nieces, Erica, Ivy, and Mattie Edwards, Lindsey Fadnek, Jihan Cox, and husband Michael, Stephanie Rackley and husband Avery, Jess Long and husband Josh, Chloe and Hannah Irwin, Devyn and Chloe Beason. Greatly loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends…too many to list.
