Jerry served in the Army from 1965 to 1967, a time that reflected the steady sense of duty that guided so much of his life. He went on to build a long and dependable career in the food industry, spending 33 years as a truck driver. Through years of early mornings and long miles, he was known for the kind of hard work that never sought attention, only results. In 1999, he retired from John Sexton Company, closing a chapter marked by reliability, honesty, and loyalty to the work and people who counted on him.
For 40 years, Jerry shared marriage with his wife, Diane. Together they raised four children, and he took deep joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those closest to him will remember a man who stood by his family with steadfast devotion, offering a presence that was constant and true.
Away from work, Jerry found peace and purpose outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved animals, and was drawn to the mountains and the open air. He also enjoyed western, war, and biblical movies—stories that spoke to endurance, conviction, and the lasting pull of tradition. Family shared that he lived his life his way, and he even referred to himself as “Nanook the Mountain Man,” a name that captured his independent spirit and love of the outdoors.
The family is thankful for the support and care they received from Ben Atchley Veterans Home, and they deeply appreciated the Honors Walk they did for their father. Jerry’s life will be remembered with respect and gratitude, and his legacy will remain in the family he loved and the steady example he set.
