

Jim earned his degree in Forestry from the University of Idaho, and his love for the outdoors never waned. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping with his family and spending countless hours on the golf course. He was also deeply passionate about caring for his yard, earning the nickname “Lawn God” in his neighborhood and throughout Greater Knoxville.
A lover of classic rock music and Nebraska football, Jim was always excited to share his enthusiasm for his favorite team and songs with those around him.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Rinni McDonald; daughters Shannon (Jeremy) Davis, Kirstin (Brad) Grey, and Dana Cottle; grandchildren Abigail and Hannah Davis, Maggie Grey, and Amilia Cottle; siblings, Linda Minkel, Jeri Engen, and Marc McDonald; along with numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation for Jim will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Berry Highland West, 9913 Sherrill Blvd, Knoxville, Tennessee 37932, followed by a celebration of life at 6:00 PM, officiated by Phil Rains.
Jim’s legacy of love, dedication, and joy for life will be forever cherished by his family and all who knew him.
