I am the sister of Mona Wilson who was a friend of Jimmy's for most of their lives. They grew up in Second United Methodist Church where their mothers were friends. Mona and Jimmy were members of the class of 1955 at West High School. Tragically in 2009 Mona suffered a stroke and has been totally disabled since then. She is unable to talk but is mentally aware. She has been in a nursing home since then. Jimmy faithfully visited her each Saturday for all of the years until Covid closed visits. Mona was always so excited to see him. His friendship and commitment were such a wonderful gift to Mona. She and I cannot fully tell you how much this selfless act has meant. I cannot attend the funeral as I get to visit Mona today for the first time in two months today. We will keep you in our prayers.

I have known Jimmy all our lives growing up at Second Methodist Church; graduating at West High; seeing each other at reunions and other occasions. He was a good and kind man. I remember especially his kindness to one of our disabled classmates. My sincere sympathy goes out to his children and family . May God bless and comfort you.

Dear Kim, Tony, Anna Marie, Ricky and Michael,

My deepest sympathies for the loss of your father. He certainly went out to the tune of Frank Sinatra’s song, “My Way”. Jim was a man’s man, no doubt about it and I know I wish I had taken the opportunity to learn more about him on a deeper level. For the preponderance of our relationship he always intimidated the heck out of me to the point, as I think you all know, that I could bring myself to call him dad because I felt like it would be disrespectful. Despite that, he was a solid father-in-law and I did feel like a son to him. He did have a big heart even under the gruffness.

I know he loved all five of you and was a very proud father. My attendance at the funeral or receiving of friends is up the air for obvious reasons as I want to show respect all way around. Regardless, I will grieve his loss and will keep all of you and his grandchildren in my thoughts and prayers. Love you all.

I will miss you, Daddy. You were a good honest man, loving father, and role model. I owe you everything for all you taught me, especially for the hours you spent explaining math/calculus. It’s unfortunate you will not know any great-grandchildren because you were the best at putting the grand-babies to sleep on your big ole chest.
Rest In Peace Daddy.
