

J N Burgin, age 90, Knoxville, Tennessee, met Jesus face to face on December 23, 2017. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Byrd Burgin, who he married just days before leaving for Europe with the U.S. Army during WWII. He is also enjoying a heavenly reunion with his parents, Freeman and Neva Burgin, and brothers, Eugene, Darrahl and Homer Burgin. J N worshipped at Sevier Heights Baptist Church in Knoxville, where he served for many years as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and wherever he was needed. Among his greatest joys was greeting and welcoming worshippers on Sundays and Wednesdays. He worked for 27 years in marketing and sales for Lays Meat Packing Company. After retiring. He devoted much of his time to gardening and the outdoors. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage and letting the grandchildren take rides on his lawn tractor with him. He is survived by his two daughters, Terry Burgin Hyder (Les), of Charleston, Illinois and Cathy Burgin Martin, of Sevierville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Amy Lafayette (Rick), of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Suzanne Sanders (Paul), of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Brian Hyder (Tricia), of Charleston, Illinois, Tim Hyder (Teresa), of Geneva, Illinois, and Katie McInnis (Taylor), of Bristol, Tennessee. His grandchildren blessed him with 20 great- grandchildren. Family will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee, on Thursday December 28, 2017 from 1:00pm – 2:00pm with a Chapel Funeral Service to follow, officiated by Rev. Charlie McNutt and Rev. Don Wilson. Following the funeral service, family and friends will process to Woodlawn Cemetery for a graveside service with Rev. Paul Sanders to officiate.
