Jo Hansard Laggis, born December 20, 1933, of Knoxville, TN went to Heaven March 8, 2024. She had a strong faith in the Lord and was a cherished member of Grace Baptist Church. Jo was born in Union County, graduated from Bearden High School and The University of Tennessee, met her husband, Mike, at Y-12 and lived her last 66 years in Karns. She was loving and generous to her family, church, friends and community. Known in the community as substitute teacher, dulcimer player, pianist, school volunteer and wonderful cook. No one ever left Jo’s house without a slice of homemade pie or a cookie and a warm word or a prayer.
Preceded in death by her father, Pearn “Hook” and mother, Trula Hansard; husband, Mike Laggis; sister, Shirley Bryant and brother, Wendell Hansard.
Survived by her sons, George (Laura) Laggis and Steve (Charlene) Laggis; grandsons, Joey and Alex; nephews “Sander” Laggis, Jack and Rick Hansard and niece Christie Laggis and her dearest friend of 53 year Jane Bruhin. She loved her newest family members Christine (Hector) Perez, Leticia (Neil) Gomez and especially cherished Catherine and Arthur Perez as great-grandchildren.
The family especially thanks Shirley Coker and Becky Linkous for their love and assistance in keeping Mom living independently past her 90th birthday in the home she loved that her father built for her.
Jo fought bravely and left us just as bravely singing hymns to the Lord and laughing her last evening away with her family. We will all miss her humor, her unconditional love for friends and family, her guidance, and her cooking. Definitely her cooking.
“I’ve already lived my sermon – made lots of mistakes but am forgiven by Jesus’ blood. Don’t cry – just meet me in Heaven.” Jo’s wishes were to have a closed casket with a simple graveside service. Visitation will be Friday the 15th from 5-7 at Weaver Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet on Saturday the 16th at 10:45 am at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens for an 11 am graveside service. Jo listed Mission of Hope,
Knoxville and Grace Baptist Church Missions for memorial contributions. Condolences are welcome at www.weaverfuneralservices.com.
