

GORDON, JOAN LINDSAY – age 71, of Karns, went home to be with Jesus on July 9, 2012 at home after courageously fighting cancer since 2000. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 51 years Dode S. Gordon, Jr.; and her son William S. (Bill) Gordon and wife Angelia L. Gordon; grandchildren: Jessi Gordon, Hannah Fairchild and Josh Fairchild; sister Jeanette (David) Roberts; brother Jack Q. Lindsay; brothers-in-law: Don (Nancy) Gordon, all of Karns, and Eddie (Phyllis) Gordon, of Lenoir City; sister-in-law Kathy (Rupert) Osborn, of Ball Camp; and many special nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank Q. and Effie Lindsay, of Karns. Joan was born August 2, 1940 in Nantahala, N.C. Her Family moved to Oak Ridge during the building of the Manhattan Project. Joan worked at the K-25 plant in Oak Ridge for 39 years in the Central Accounting Division. She was very active in the Order of Eastern Star, Beaver Ridge Lodge #320, and a Past Worthy Matron. She was a graduate of Karns High School (1958). She attended the University of Tennessee; was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church for over 58 years and a member of “Sisters In Christ” Sunday School Class. Joan was cared for by Knoxville Gynecological Cancer Specialists (Dr. David Martin and Staff) and Professional Case Management and Staff. Our Special Thanks to Erin Jacques and Tammy Coleman. The Family will receive friends at Weaver Funeral Home Thursday night from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. chapel service to follow with Pastor Mike Thomas officiating. Family and friends will meet Friday, 9:45 A.M. at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens, Edgemoor Road in Claxton for a 10:00 A.M. graveside service. The nephews will serve as pallbearers.
