Joann (Skinner) Simpson

She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and Sunday School teacher at Valley Grove Baptist Church where she cherished teaching her "girls" for over 40 years. She loved spending hours at the the puzzle table, quilting and gardening, playing Rook or ”Hand and Foot”, and cooking and caring for her family and friends.

Joann is preceded in death by her parents, Emmett Skinner and Celia Westbrook Skinner, husband, Ray Simpson, and her daughters, Sabrina Kent and Sandra Presley, son-in-law Rick Presley, brother Jimmy Skinner and wife Julia Skinner.

She is survived by her brother, Billy Skinner and wife Iva Skinner, son-in-law, Chuck Kent and wife Debbie Kent, her grandchildren Rachel Presley, Jessica Strutz and husband Brian Strutz, Andrea Presley Torbett and husband Scott Torbett, John Parker Presley and wife Megan McBride Presley, and great granddaughter, Charlotte Torbett. She also leaves behind many lifelong friends, her community at Valley Grove Baptist Church, and the sweet caregivers and new friends at South High Senior Living.

A graveside service will be held at Berry Highland South Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 9010 E Simpson Rd, Knoxville, TN, 37920, United States. The service is scheduled for November 14, 2025, starting at 1:00 pm in the Garden of the Three Crosses. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Valley Grove Baptist Church, 9000 Sevierville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920.
