He was a faithful member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, AL as well as the Bruised Reed Fellowship in Maryville, TN.
John was preceded in death by his father, Joe Henry Diegel, and his mother, Doris Claire Diegel.
He is survived by his daughter, Lydia Ruth Diegel; ex-wife, Carol Jo Diegel; sister, Brenda Staples; aunt, Mary Ann Dobbs; and many other cousins, a niece and a nephew.
John had a lifelong love of music, and he found joy in playing his many guitars. John had a long distinguished career as an architect and was responsible for the design of many significant buildings in Alabama and Florida.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Berry Highland West, 9913 Sherrill Blvd, Knoxville, TN 37932. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. The family will also have visitation on Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave Sw, Birmingham, AL 35211. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM in Elmwood Cemetery.
