Ava, Bruce and I are so sorry that you are going through this. You are such a strong person but no matter how strong you are it is hard losing someone you love.

   Words can't really comfort the loss you feel, but know that God is always there for you.  And, now, John is suffering no longer and in the presence of God.  May that also comfort you in the days ahead.

I cannot begin to understand the feelings you have had to endure these past few days but know that John is no longer suffering. You loved him and he loved you. I fully believe that people are put into our lives for a reason and that belief enabled John to overcome many battles. You were steadfast in your efforts to be there by his side through the long and tedious war with kidney disease. 
During this time I can't help but think of the many happy memories; Riding on the back of his motorcycle, driving the go-cart, the many visits to the TN Valley Fair, car shows on Saturday nights, Sunday morning breakfasts, handing him tools to work on the hotrod, the clubhouse at Brookhill, playing poker in the cabin with matchsticks for money, camping out at the Brock reunion, his eloquent craftsmanship on the many projects he completed, his essential stocking stuffers, his stash of Swiss Cake Rolls and him always calling me Johnny C. 
I will always think of John whenever I see an old hotrod going down the road or a car magazine. He is now living the good life free of worldly constraints. 
I love you more than you will ever know. Promise to never forget the good times and know that he will hold a place in your heart that can never be taken from you.

I am very sad to hear of my frend John's passing. We were good friends for a a lot of years. Not only a treasured friend, John was a great craftsman with a lot of good ideas on how to build stuff and make it work well and look great. John put his "golden touch" on a lot of projects for me over the years. I see things every day that "ole John built for me". Ava, John's sons, and Jack: I am sorry for you all having to go through losing John. Boys, you may think you have lost you Dad, but you will find that he will still be with you in the future in many ways. Hang in there.

Hello. I only knew Mr. Douglas for a few days. I met with him a couple of times to talk about an in-home program. I could tell that he was a very kind person. I will keep your family in my prayers.
