

Buchanan, Johnny Pleasant- of Powell passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Tennova North after a short illness. He was born in Tampa, Florida on February 9, 1943. He was an aquatic biologist in the Fisheries and Waterfowl division Tennessee Valley Authority since 1969. He received his bachelors from Arkansas State and his masters from the University of Arkansas. He loved his family, his friends, his dogs and he was at home on the river. Preceded in death by his father Pleasant Lee Buchanan. Johnny is survived by his mother Louise Conway Buchanan Harper, sister and brother-in-law Mary and Carl Morris, daughter and son-in-law David and Sheila Cole, son and daughter-in-law Mark and Monica Buchanan, grandchildren Sarah and Andrew McAffry, Matt and Alana Cole, Cristina and Melissa Buchanan, and beloved great-grandchildren Sofia and Isabella Vanzo and Charlotte and Brooks McAffry, nephew Andrew Morris, and special friends Bennie and Sarah Kerley. He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and spending time on the water with friends and family. He, Bennie and son Mark took his dream trip down the Tennessee River to Muscle Shoals Alabama a few years ago making wonderful memories along the way. He will be greatly missed by all including his long time companions, his golden retrievers, Bama and Augie .The family will receive friends Friday, February 1 at Powell United Methodist Church in the old sanctuary from 5:00-7:00. The service will follow at 7:00 with Jamie Bauknight officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Highways and Byways ministry through Powell United Methodist Church, 323 W.
