Joseph Huston Brooks was born on December 1, 1929. He died in Knoxville, Tennessee on July 27, 2023, at the age of 93. He grew up with great respect and honor for his parents, a love of learning, and music. He played several instruments, but the trumpet was his favorite. Joseph served in the army and played in a military band while stationed in Europe during the Korean War. His first wife died, and years later he married a friend he had dated in high school, Henrietta Bussell. They were married on November 12, 1988, and were together until she died in December of 2018.
Joseph was a faithful member of the Living Church of God for over 31 years. He had a love for God and his Word the Holy Bible – which he read often. Due to his diligent study of scripture, he was able to quote many of them from memory. He had various jobs including working in the mailroom at TVA for many years, then after retiring he was a substitute teacher. He lifted weights into his 90’s to keep his body in shape and even took online classes up in his 90’s to keep his mind in shape. Joseph enjoyed sweets, especially chocolate. He was a kind, gentle, thankful, and respectful man who will be missed, especially by his Church family.
A service will be held for Joseph on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 12pm at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at 1pm inside Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery.
