Joyce was born in Haywood County, NC to Flora Deaver Williams and George Washington Williams on December 14th, 1938. She married her “dance partner for life,” Ray Brumbaugh, on March 25, 1960, at First Baptist Church in Washington, DC.
She and her husband, Ray, and her three children moved from Washington, DC to LaFollette, TN in 1974, upon witnessing the beauty of Powell Valley.
Her passion and love for Christ and reading led Joyce and her husband, Ray, to open the Ray of Joy Christian Bookstore in LaFollette, TN. After many years of ministering to the community through the bookstore, as well as serving as Church Hostess and long-time choir member and soloist for the First Baptist Church of LaFollette, Joyce and Ray spent their Autumn years traveling the country as avid RV’ers prior to settling in Lady Lake, Florida, where she enjoyed dancing, reading, golf and church. She hit a hole in one the last golf swing of her life. She enjoyed her final years spending time with family and friends after moving to Knoxville, TN.
Joyce is preceded in death by her sisters, Daisy Williams and Gerry Johnson; brothers, Morris Williams and Earl Williams; and Mother, Flora Deaver Williams, and father, George Washington Williams.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Ray Paul Brumbaugh; son, Ray Paul Brumbaugh, II; daughter, Nancy Rebecca Wofford; son and daughter-in-law, George William and Joyce Galloway Brumbaugh; grandchildren, Eliza Wofford, Jacob Brumbaugh, and Amelia Brumbaugh, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends special thanks to our daughter and sister, Nancy Wofford, for her loving care of Joyce during the final years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given in Joyce’s name and honor to the church or charitable organization of their choice.
