Smith, Julia Ann – born Dec. 6, 1931 passed away on Sept. 23, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospice. Mrs. Smith was retired from Knox County Schools, , manager of a motel in Gatlinburg, owned “Aunt Mary’s” yarn shop, and then sold art for Terry Water’s Art Gallery. Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star #418. She was a passionate bridge player in Sevier County. A supporter of the Pigeon Forge Library. Preceded in death by parents, Otis & Goldie Underwood of Strawberry Plains and granddaughter, Selena Mellon of Knoxville. Survivors: daughters: Shelia Smith Mellon, Deborah & Steve Howerton, and Mary & Scott Halfacre; sister, Norma & Ed McNish; cousin, Johnny & Jean Wilhelm. She leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Her family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Hospice. Family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Sunday, September 25th at McCarty-Evergreen Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 7pm with Rev. Ronnie White officiating.
