Though she faced challenges in life due to intellectual disability, Kathy lived with a joy, simplicity, and love that radiated the heart of Christ.
Born on January 29, 1943, in Columbus, Mississippi, Kathy was the cherished daughter of Virginia Dare (Gillespie) and Troy Hamilton Jones. After settling in South Knoxville, Tennessee she graduated from the Van Guilder Occupational Training School in 1963 and later enjoyed a long and meaningful career at Sunshine Industries, retiring at the remarkable age of 70.
Kathy’s early joys included caring for the family’s beloved chihuahuas and spending time with relatives. She developed a deep love for sports and could enthusiastically name most team mascots without missing a beat.
After the passing of her parents, Kathy was lovingly embraced by her cousin Martha and her husband, John Simpson. She became an active member of Lake Forest Presbyterian Church, where she made many friends and joyfully assisted Martha in the kindergarten class.
Kathy also made many friends through her years at Sunshine Industries and during her time at the Beta Home, especially in her retirement. She was known for her helpful spirit, warm presence, and remarkable memory—always asking about your children and recalling every detail you had once shared.
We rejoice that Kathy is now fully whole in the presence of the Lord, reunited with her adoring parents, and embraced by everlasting peace. We will deeply miss her warm smile, spontaneous joy, and faithful love.
Kathy is survived by first cousins: John Jones, Stephen Jones, Lucy Nolan, Rachel Hensler, William Jones; second cousins: Pat Capps, Ann Miller, Charles Montgomery, Jim Montgomery, Steve Simpson, Shannon Teague, and April Montgomery Verity. Special thanks to all our wonderful caregivers through Visiting Angels.
