Kathy C. Killingsworth, age 78, of Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family, friends, and community.
Kathy was truly larger than life, embracing every season with enthusiasm, kindness, and a contagious sense of adventure. She believed life was meant to be experienced, and she did just that.
One of her greatest passions was the underwater world. As a Master Diver, she spent many joyful years exploring the beauty of the ocean, marveling at sea life, and seeking out new adventures beneath the surface. Later in life, she discovered a love for camping, where she became a familiar and beloved friend to countless fellow campers. No matter where she went, Kathy had an extraordinary gift for making people feel welcome.
She found happiness in life's simple pleasures—spending time with those she loved, tending to her plants and flowers, and enjoying all genres of music. She had a heart that naturally gravitated toward children and animals, offering both endless patience and unconditional love. Rarely was there a moment when one of her cherished—and very spoiled—fur babies wasn't comfortably nestled in her lap. Kathy also proudly cheered on the Tennessee Volunteers and rarely missed an opportunity to support her beloved Vols.
Kathy's work ethic matched her generous heart. As co-owner of Bomanite of East Tennessee and K&J Concrete Polishing—the "K" in K&J—she dedicated herself to providing exceptional craftsmanship and customer service. Her warm personality, sharp wit, and genuine care for others earned the respect of customers, colleagues, and friends alike.
Her compassion extended far beyond her business. Kathy faithfully volunteered with Mobile Meals, helping provide meals to senior citizens throughout Knoxville and the surrounding communities. She was never one to turn away a young person raising money for a cause, always offering support with a smile. Children were naturally drawn to her gentle spirit, listening ear, and encouraging heart.
Above all else, Kathy treasured her family. She was the kind of wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose love knew no limits. She celebrated life's joys with those she loved, offered strength during difficult times, and made everyone around her feel like family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Lamar Cates and Katherine Woodall Cates.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, James G. "Jim" Killingsworth; daughter, Kristin Brantley Dixon (George); her son, James Matthew Killingsworth (Chase); her beloved grandson, Ty Dixon; honorary grandchildren, Bella, Blake, Zac; sister, Debbie Brown (Nick); brother, Alan Cates (Jean); nieces and nephews, Shawn, Eric, Jennifer, and David, along with countless extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.
While Kathy's accomplishments were many, they cannot truly measure the impact she made through the way she loved others. She lived with generosity, courage, humor, and grace, leaving behind a lifetime of treasured memories. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to live on in every story shared, every laugh remembered, and every act of kindness inspired by her example.
Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Kathy's life on Sunday, June 28, 2026 from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Chesapeake's West, 9630 Parkside Drive, Knoxville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Mobile Meals, a cause that reflected Kathy's lifelong commitment to caring for others.
