He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Fu Mei Shen (Shen Fu Mei); his daughters, Emily Noel Liao and Lynn Liao Hodge (Mike Hodge); and his grandchildren, Allison, Annie, Henry, and James Hodge. He is also survived by extended members of the Liao and Shen families in the United States and Taiwan.
Kow Fai studied electrical engineering (EE) as an undergraduate student in Taiwan. He moved to the U. S. in his early thirties, and as a graduate student, he continued his studies in EE. He worked as an electrical engineer until he retired. He appreciated the beauty of Tennessee and grew to call it home. Family was always at the center of his life, and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He also loved do-it-yourself home repair projects and patiently walked his children through more math homework than they would have preferred. His favorite hobbies included swimming, running, singing in the choir at the Chinese Christian Church of Knoxville, and watching tennis, especially the Grand Slam tournaments. He had fun on family beach trips and enjoyed sharing meals and good conversation with family and friends.
A private family service will be held.
