Once in a blue moon, does a person enter your life who brightens your day; Larry was such a person. As a customer of Walgreens in Jamestown, I met this wonderful man with a permanent smile and a cheerful disposition.  He soon became an individual that I was proud to call a friend. I didn't know much about Larry, other than he loved eagles. A dedicated employee and all-around good guy, he was a goodwill ambassador for the store, dressing up for different occasions in the spirit for which it was intended. Yesterday, my heart sank and my eyes watered when I saw Larry's picture and the words, "In Memory." Thank you, Larry, for the honor of knowing you; you will never be forgotten! May God Bless your spirit and family. 

I loved Larry and working with him, sitting at UT football games with him and catching up on family. What a shock that he is gone! Our thoughts and prayers to Ellen and the family.

I always enjoyed our conversations at Walgreens. We often talked about hiking and the outdoors. He was always so nice and friendly. One of a kind! I will miss him!

I had the pleasure of working with Larry during my time at Walgreens. I will always hold those days close to my heart. He would always greet you with a smile, share his reasons of living such a positive life, and make your day so much better. He was so proud of his family and legacy. I was blessed to have known Larry and even more blessed to have been able to hear about his life. My prayers are sent to his loved ones. I cannot imagine what they are going through after losing such a precious soul. Larry will be very missed. 

I knew larry only a short time seeing him at the Walgreens store in Jamestown. He called me by my name each time he greeted me. I went in only a couple of weeks ago and that would have been the last time to see him. He always talked with me about the Tennessee volunteers football games. Sometimes there was nothing good to say about the game but we would try to find a positive moment of the game. I was in the store today and found out he had passed away. I felt really sad. It will not be the same there. My deepest sympathy goes to his family and I am sorry I could not have known him longer.

When I think of Larry… it’s his smile.  Memories of band at South High are abundant. Larry married my roommate from UT Nursing school….  Henriella Williams! I can’t remember how they met, but they will both always be two sweet and kind folks. Henriella and family, I am so sorry for your loss, but know you have many, many wonderful memories. My sincerest condolences to Larry’s family.  Larry and I were in the South Hi band trombone section.  As I recall,  we were two of 4 band members sharing a room at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Wash, DC.   He was a fun guy then and now, and knew no strangers.   RIP Larry.

Larry and I had a special bond of military service. I worked on aircraft in the USAF that Larry jumped  out of. Always had enjoyable conversation about our time in service. Heaven now has another Paratrooper.  Peace and Blessings to the family.

Larry and I both loved nature greatly.  About 2010 he and I took a several day trip from Cherokee, NC up the Blueridge Parkway to Galax, VA and back.  We took in many of the side roads and stayed in a true mountain cabin near Linville Falls, NC.  Stopping for photos a hundred times we relived many of life's memories including our years in the Army (both of us were Airborne Paratroopers).  His devotion to his wife and children were a constant subject.  He was so proud of each family member.  We talked about many subjects and compared our take on our faith.  He was a devout Christian and made an effort to uplift the faith and spirits of others.  I will always admire this fine human being and miss his companionship.  Rest in peace dear cousin.

Larry was such an amazing guy!! He was so great to work with at Walgreens! He made sure to remember every customer by their first name! It sure won’t be the same without Larry! He will be missed dearly! I know my son Riley loved coming into Walgreens to see Larry! He loved to dress up at work for every holiday!!

Larry, my sister and I grew up together at Hillcrest UM church. We were in MYF at church where my mother was the teacher.  He and his parents always sat in the pew behind us.  The memories are many at our church and attending HS together. Jesus has another loving, kind and fine angel!

I extend my sincere and deepest sympathy.  Larry was a loyal, considerate, giving Christian who lived what he believed.  He and I did church visitations together when he was in Seymour.  He taught our Joyful Noise Sunday School Class at SUMC, and he was generous in committing his time to the church and it’s members.  I believe he demonstrated that one should do the best one can at whatever task, large or small, that is at hand.  I am sorry he is gone from us.  May God bless his family, and may God bless his departed spirit and welcome him into His eternal presence and peace.

Larry James Long, age 74, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021. He was born October 2, 1946. He has been married to the love of his life, Henriella (Williams) Long, for 50 years. Larry never met a stranger and a trip to the grocery store could easily take over an hour. He loved UT football and hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains and Big South Fork, having hiked well over 700 miles in his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by parents, James and Mildred Long.
He is survived by his loving wife, Henriella; his son, Michael Long; daughters, Deanna Garcia and Sheri Durand; grandchildren, Hugo, Cecilia and Adaline.
