Laurel Ann Mapes, age 90, of Luttrell, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at Fort Sanders Hospital with her family by her side.

Laurel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who lived a life centered on faith, family, and serving others. Alongside her husband, Donald, she raised five children, setting an example of love, kindness, and support that continues through her family today.

She enjoyed many creative hobbies and was especially talented in knitting, crocheting, sewing, smocking, quilting, and making porcelain dolls. She also loved animals and always had several in her home.

Laurel was a member of North Knoxville Seventh-day Adventist Church. In her younger years, she served as a deaconess, taught children’s classes, and played the piano in her church. Her quiet faith and caring spirit touched many lives over the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Mapes; her daughter, Deborah Ann Mapes; her father, Clarence Hendricks; her mother, Hazel Palmer; her brother, L. Clarence Hendricks Jr.; and her sister, Jean Peele.

She is survived by her sons, Gary D. Mapes (Jo) and Brian L. Mapes; her daughters, Laurel Osborn (John) and Julie Cook; her grandchildren, John Osborn II, Andrew Osborn (Erin), Thomas Osborn (Karly), Lauren Cook (Casey), Van Cook, Chelsea Mapes (Jake), Heather Jidkov (Artem), and Breanna Mapes; her great-grandchildren, Noah, Evelyn, James Osborn, Elijah Cook-Horne, Opal Chapman, Jaxson Chapman, and Hunter Dean; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will have a private interment service at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Remote Area Medical (RAM) in Laurel’s memory.
