Lawrence Eugene McCarter

Eugene was born on October 19, 1956. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Edna Elizabeth Llewellyn McCarter, and his father, Jack Eugene McCarter.

Eugene was a one-of-a-kind person who will be remembered for his persistence, determination, and willingness to do whatever was needed to accomplish the things he set out to do. Throughout his life, he faced challenges with a strong spirit and never easily gave up. Those who knew him best knew that when Eugene set his mind to something, he was going to see it through.

A proud Knoxville native, Eugene attended Northwest Middle School and Central High School. During his school years, he was a student-athlete who served as a co-captain and played halfback at Northwest Middle School. His competitive spirit and love of the game were a meaningful part of his younger years.

Family was an important part of Eugene’s life. He is survived by his two sisters, Brenda Gail Harmon and Sherry Jean Grubner, along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will carry his memory with them.

Eugene's life was defined not only by the things he accomplished, but by the people whose lives he touched along the way. He had a way of making an impression, and his memory will live on through his family and those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Eugene will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to honor Eugene’s memory consider planting a tree in his honor.
