Lillie R. (Barnard) Benson

Benson, Lillie R. (Barnard), of Knoxville, born in Strawplains, TN, passed away December 19, 2011 at Norris Rehab Facility. She was 80 years old. The Lord reached down and took her hand and said, “Lillie it’s time to go.” She said, “Yes, Lord, I’ve been waiting on you to take me home.” Lillie was a lady that loved being with her family and grandkids. She loved cooking for her family. She always kept her table full of food for everyone to enjoy. She leaves her brother, Carroll Barnard and wife, Jo; sisters, Sylvia and husband Bill Robertson; Joann and husband, Ray Gann; sons, Larry Benson, William Benson and his special friend, Carmen Hackney; daughters, Patricia Browning and husband, Richard; Sharon Parrott and husband, Jack; Cindy Spangler and husband, Kim; and the pride and joy of her life, special daughter, Diane (Doodle Bug) Benson, whom she took care of and loved so dearly; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and her dog (Lily). Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 22, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway, with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m. Rev. Robert Branch will officiate. Family and friends will meet at Strawberry Plains Cemetery on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. for interment services. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.
