Spencer, Linda Townsend born April 1, 1949, passed away suddenly at home Saturday morning. Linda felt so blessed to be involved in the fellowship of Church Street United Methodist where she served on the Benevolence Team and worked in the Thursday Soup kitchen as well as volunteering with Knoxville Habitat for Humanity. A graduate of South High School, Linda returned to her native East Tennessee following her retirement from Exxon/Mobil in Houston. There are those who speak of love and those who walk in love. Linda’s love walk knew no bounds or restrictions, and as an organ donor, her desire to give to others extended even beyond her passing away. Survived by her husband of thirty-one years Doug Spencer, son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Brenda Courtney; sister-in-law, Linda Lester of Knoxville; mother and step-father, Nancy Jo and Bob Fowler; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Gary Byers and Tina and Ron Thurman; niece, Loren Lytal and nephews, Justin Lytal, Blake Thurman and Parker Thurman of Cookeville. A celebration of life service will be held at Church Street United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 31 at 3:00 PM. Interment will be private. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions be made in Linda’s name to the Church Street United Methodist Church’s Benevolence Team or the Soup Kitchen. Send donations to: Church Street United Methodist Church, 900 Henley Street, Knoxville, TN 37902 or PO Box 1303, Knoxville, TN 37901. Condolences may be offered at www.berryfuneralhome.com.
