Mitchell, Lynn, a kind-hearted and Godly man, peacefully slipped into the arms of Jesus on May 5, 2014. Lynn was born September 28, 1956 to proud parents James Dewey and Mary Ann Mitchell. He grew up in West Morristown. At the age of 9, Lynn accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord at Grace Baptist Church in Morristown. He graduated from Morristown West in 1974 and went on to attend the University of Tennessee where he became a lifelong fan of the Volunteers. In 1977 Lynn married Mary Ann Broyles, from South Knoxville. While living in Morristown in 1979, Lynn and Mary Ann’s first child, Angel, was stillborn. After moving to Chattanooga, the first and second surviving children, Laura and Bradley were born. After returning to Knoxville in 1984, his other surviving children were born, Jonathan, Ruth Ann, Caleb and Samuel. In 2005, Brad married Betsy Riley and today they have two beautiful children, Jonah and Isaiah, who have their PaPaw’s love for sports. Unexpectedly, in 2007, his wife and mother of his children, Mary Ann, passed away. In 2010, Lynn began his relationship with a beautiful and Godly woman, Sharon Wear. She brought much joy to his life along with her son, Michael and daughter-in-law, Jessica and grandchildren, Macie, Lilly and Blake. In 2013 Lynn’s family grew through Ruth Ann’s marriage to Alex Goodin, and through the beauty of Laura’s adoption of Jacob. Lynn was looking forward to Jonathan’s upcoming marriage in June to Kara Walker. Lynn enjoyed ministering to his community by combining his love for Christ and sports through One Goal Soccer Ministry, which he founded in 2003. Lynn also enjoyed serving as a deacon and choir member for many years at Mt. Olive Baptist Church and more recently as a choir member and interim worship leader at Calvary Baptist in Alcoa. Because of the hope in Christ, Lynn shared with those who have preceded him in death, he is now enjoying the fruits of his faith by worshiping the Lord Jesus in heaven with: his wife, Mary Ann; father, Dewey; in-laws, Charles and Marge Broyles. A praise and worship service in celebration of Lynn’s life will be held Thursday, May 8, at 7:30 pm at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Friends will be received in the sanctuary 5 pm – 7:30 pm prior to the service. Rev. Greg Williamson and Rev. Jonathan Mitchell will be officiating. Family and friends will meet Friday, May 9, at Mt. Olive Cemetery for a 1 pm interment service. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and One Goal Soccer coaches and volunteers. Memorials may be made to the Choir Ministry at Calvary Baptist Church, 100 S. Rankin Rd. Alcoa, TN 37701. The family invites you to share your thoughts and fond memories of Lynn on his memorial website at www.berryfuneralhome.com
