Madeleine Helene “Maddy” Poe (Madeleine Gorsky) woke in the arms of Jesus in the early morning of November 27, 2021 in Knoxville, TN at the age of 69. Madeleine is survived by her husband, Stephen Poe; children, Sonya Curl, Tiffany Gilliland, Kim Wright and Lisa Norris; siblings, Bill Gorsky of NJ, Stanley Gorksy of FL, and Yvonne Gorsky of NJ. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Egon Gorsky of NJ, and Hazel and Leland Poe of TN. Madeleine was born on May 24, 1952 in Israel to Egon and Elizabeth Gorsky. She married Stephen Poe, the love of her life in 1989. She and Steve lived in the same house in South Knoxville for the entirety of their marriage. The couple raised 4 daughters together, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild (Caitlin Poe, Loren Whaley, Tyler Curl, Dillon Whaley, Hunter Gilliland, Hayden Gilliland, Emma Wright, Andy Wright, London Norris, Kennedy Norris and Rylei Sneed). Madeleine was also very proud of her 4 sons-in-law, Mike Curl, Brett Gilliland, Jason Wright, and Anthony Norris. To her friends, family and anyone else she came in contact with (including the nurses at the hospital, doctors, even those just bringing food to her, or those replenishing her oxygen at home), Madeleine was a light for her Savior. She was a ray of sunshine, a joy to be around, an encourager, a listener, a prayer warrior, a friend to those others turned away. She was a constant smile, she was a hug, she was a sounding board and a listening ear. Before becoming too sick, she was a singer of her favorite songs, a dancer of her generation’s trends, the “cooker” of our nightly meals and Thanksgiving turkeys. She was a laugher and a hand holder. She was a phone call in the middle of the night if that was needed. She was the best. Madeleine was an accomplished professional colorist as well as a knitter, crocheter and crafter. She was a loving and compassionate individual who loved helping others and who was passionate about sharing her testimony of how Christ saved her to anyone who would listen. For as long as she could be, she was an active and dedicated member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church who loved her Sunday school class and loved teaching and serving others. The family will receive friends December 3, 2021 at Berry Funeral Home from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM with a service to follow at 12:00 PM, Pastor Hollie Miller officiating. Family and friends will proceed to Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following the service for interment. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Madeleine’s life. Online condolences may be left at www.berryfuneralhome.com.
