Margaret Norma Thurber

Margaret R. Thurber, 90 years old, of Knoxville, went to her Heavenly home, April 11, 2022. She was born January 8, 1932. Margaret graduated from Rule High School in 1950. She was active in many clubs and activities including being a reporter for the school newspaper. She worked at American Standard as a young adult before going on to work and retire at the University of Tennessee Library. While she enjoyed those jobs, her greatest career was being a military wife and raising Marty. Margaret spent many happy years as a member of Second United Methodist Church, Western Avenue, Knoxville. and was happily married to Jerry L. Thurber for 67 years.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, William Boyd and Bessie Oglesby Rutherford; siblings, Stella, Lawrence, Alvin, Dortha Rutherford and Helen Love; grandson, Cory Thurber and great grandson, Easton Olson.

Margaret leaves behind her husband, Jerry L. Thurber; son, Marty (Tammy) Thurber; brother, William Boyd Rutherford, Jr. (Betty); sister, Betty Jean Painter; grandchildren, Kristen (Wes) Morris, Cody Thurber, Nichole Olson, Michael (Kristen) Olson, Cindy Olson and Jessica (Ray) Scull; great grandchildren, Ethan, Serenity, Mackenzie, Kobe, Baylynn, Harrison, Ashton, Cooper, Cayde, Aydan and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Margaret will be held Friday, April 15, 2022 from 12:30 to 1:30pm at Second United Methodist Church, 1524 Western Avenue, with a funeral service to follow at 1:30pm. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 15, 2022 at 3pm at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery, 5315 Kingston Pike.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Second United Methodist Church, in memory of Margaret.
