Marilyn Simmons Moore, 84, passed away on August 26, 2026. Born on October 14, 1941, in Pensacola, Florida, she was the daughter of Homer and Alene Bodie. Marilyn lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she built a life rooted in devotion to family, service to others, and the steady, quiet joys of home and community.
For more than 20 years, Marilyn taught special education in Knox County Schools, including work with the visually impaired. In that calling, her care was not merely professional—it was personal, marked by patience, attentiveness, and a deep respect for each student’s dignity. Her work reflected a life shaped by compassion and a sincere desire to help others find their way forward.
Outside of the classroom, Marilyn found happiness in simple pleasures: time at the lake, fishing, gardening, crossword puzzles, and playing cards and games. She also delighted in gathering family close—especially when she was telling scary stories to her children, nieces, and nephews, a tradition that brought laughter, suspense, and togetherness, and remains a cherished part of her family’s memories.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Aaron, Billy, Harold “Lawson” and Jerry Bodie; and sisters, June Mackey and Patricia Spencer. She is survived by her husband, Charles Moore; children, Joel Simmons and Lisa Simmons; step-sons, Chuck and Craig Moore; sister, Joyce Digmon; sister-in-law, Brenda Grayson Bodie; special niece, Stephanie Spencer Carroll; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
