Marjory Temple Rogers passed away peacefully at home with the support of family and hospice on January 8th, 2022 at the age of 91. Marjory was born in Nashville, TN on December 22, 1930 and later moved with her family to Knoxville, TN where they lived in Fountain City. She graduated from Central High School and then attended the University of Tennessee where she received a BA in Home Economics. She also attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where she had the opportunity to further explore and grow her love of music. She spent many years teaching music at local schools, giving piano lessons to children throughout Knoxville, and singing in the St. James Episcopal and Church of the Ascension choirs. Marjory married Arden Rogers in 1964, to whom she was deeply devoted during their almost 58 years of marriage. They raised five children together.
Marjory valued spending her time giving to others and spent many years supporting volunteer efforts with her church, neighborhood, and community. She was always making new friends and participating in social events where she was the life of the party. She loved reading, bird watching, and was a faithful letter writer - keeping in touch with loved ones through her regular updates. She loved outdoor adventures like camping, traveling, and spending time at the lake with her family. She always loved boating, water skiing, tennis, and square dancing. Every summer, the Rogers family would take a long car ride to south Florida to visit Arden’s family, and she always made sure the trip was easy-going and fun. Marjory spent her years living the values of kindness and compassion and enjoying all the little moments that brought her joy.
Marjory is preceded in death by her parents (Marjory and William Temple), her brothers (Bill, Rob, Jim, and Van Temple), her son-in-law (Robert Phelps), and her grandson (Thomas Phelps). She is survived by her husband, Arden D. Rogers of Knoxville, TN; her brother John Temple (Mary Sue) of Knoxville, TN; her five children, Belinda Dyer (David) of Alcoa, TN; Doug Rogers (Lori) of Kennewick, WA; David Beerman (Joyce) of Knoxville, TN; Evelyn Winther (Jerry) of Knoxville, TN; and Rosanne Phelps of Savannah, GA; as well as five grandchildren and two cats.
A service for close family and friends will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 17, 2022 at Church of the Ascension.
