SCALF, Mark Darren, age 52, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, August 7, 2013. On October 9, 1960 one seven year old primary princess had a rude awakening. She got a baby brother…A nine pound ball of sleep and cry and in your business. He grew into a running in circles preschooler who was once charged by the cousins as being “too little to be an outlaw”…clearly he did not agree. In his teens he became all lanky arms and legs. A high school basketball coach’s perfect candidate…until they told him to practice falling on a hardwood floor. Suddenly NASCAR was his sport. He took the skills learned in vocational building trades at Sevier Co. High School into a lifetime of working with his hands. Nearly twenty years of that spent working with Donnie and Eddie Bittle. Visible to the world he maintained a weathered scruffy exterior. It was an armor he wore to protect his gentle heart. Those of us he let inside knew of his humor and kindness and we will love him forever. Early Wednesday, August 7, 2013, he was gathered into waiting, loving arms by his parents, Mack and Alyce Scalf, his beloved Carolyn, the love of his life, his big sister Bessie and best buddy nephew Darryl. The loved ones remaining include sister, Susan Kay and brother-in-law, Gary Sharp; brothers: Andrew(Murl)Scalf, Dewey(Annie)Scalf, Horace Scalf, Paul Armstrong, Jerry(Diane) Armstrong and sister, Kay Allison. Many cousins, nieces, nephews and all his Bittle and Son’s family. The family will receive friends Friday, August 9, 2013 from 12:00pm-1:00pm at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway. The funeral service will follow at 1:00pm. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at www.berryfuneralhome.com
