A proud U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, Marvin was a recipient of two Purple Hearts in recognition of his bravery and service to his country. He lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.
Marvin and his beloved late wife of 57 years, Wilma Hickman, were long-time members of Meadow View Baptist Church in Knoxville, where they built lasting friendships and lived out their shared faith. Known for his gentle spirit and love of life's simple joys, Marvin cherished time spent at Myrtle Beach, riding in his Mustang convertible, and tinkering with cars in his spare time.
Marvin is survived by his daughter, Marie (Larry) Holder; son, Marvin "Clay" (Pam) Hickman; grandchildren: Brittany (Tyler) Parkhurst, Erin (Bryan) Hitchcock, Tiffany (Jason) Potter, and Talia (Mark) Dix; great-grandchildren: Colton Hitchcock, Tristin Potter, Ava Potter, Wade Potter, Anna Dix, Liam Parkhurst, Madelyn Parkhurst; sister, Sara Ann Lee; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also remembered with love by special friend, Blanche McCarrel.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at South High Assisted Living and Gentiva Hospice for their exceptional care, compassion, and support during Marvin’s final days.
Marvin's legacy of love, service, and quiet determination lives on through those who knew and cherished him.
Family and friends will meet Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Berry Highland South Cemetery, 9010 West Simpson Road, Knoxville, TN 37920 for an 11:00 AM Graveside Service.
