

Mary Lou Barrett, 87, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on July 2, 2026. Born June 21, 1939, in New Lexington, Ohio, Mary Lou was the daughter of Reverend Calvin and Mildred Nichols. She grew up alongside two sisters, Carol and Sue, within a family shaped by faith and close ties.
On July 6, 1957, Mary Lou married Lawrence in Richmond, Indiana. Together they built a home centered on devotion and steady commitment, raising their children, Larry, Brad, Melinda, and Kimberly. In 1967, Mary Lou and her family moved from Indiana to Knoxville, Tennessee, where she became deeply rooted in her community and church life.
Mary Lou attended Knoxville First Church of God, where she served faithfully as secretary for 35 years. Her long service reflected a life marked by reliability, quiet dedication, and sincere care for others, and she remained closely involved in the work and fellowship of her church.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence M. Barrett; her sons, Brian David and Brad Alan; and her sister, Sue Tackett.
She is survived by her children, Larry (Terry) Barrett, Melinda (Kevin) Patsey, and Kimberly (Josh) Burleson; grandchildren, Nicole (Guy) Webb, David Barrett, Brie (Brandon) Ulrich, James Tyler, Logan Barrett, Natalie Barrett, and Gavin Burch; and great-grandchildren, Bryce, Connor, Preston, Peyton, Paige, Rhett, Isla, Silas, and Lennox; sister, Carol (Steve) Gough.
Receiving of friends will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Knoxville First Church of God from 4-6pm with a celebration of life to follow. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Knoxville First Church Youth Group.
